When to use the 1000 calorie diet ?
As we mentioned earlier, this diet is pretty drastic, and should only be used no more than 2 weeks in following situations :
· just want to lose weight quickly,
· feel the need to start a longer term weight loss plan
· "clean up" your digestive system after a period of unhealthy eating like christmas or thanksgiving
1000 calorie diet : This type of low-calorie diet produces quick results in term of loss weight.
This short term diet is hypocaloric, meaning that your physiological needs will not be 100% covered.
Fat, calories, and sugars are replaced by foods rich in complex carbohydrates and fiber that can increase satiety and decrease energy intake. When the calorie diet is controled and not drastic, it allows a gradual weight loss while maintaining balanced food habits.
The drinks can include water, black tea or coffee without sugar and carbonated beverages such as negligible per calorie Diet Coke.
Caution and warning contribution to the scheme to 1000 calories per day:
If the low-calorie diet is heavy or repeated, the drastic reduction of energy intake results in a decreased metabolic rate (reduction of energy used for digestion of food and decreased thermoregulation). This reduction in basal metabolic rate may be 15%. The body protects itself by using fewer calories to operate, implying that when the patient resume a regular diet, he will gain more weight by reducing energetic spending. - 1/2 cup water
- 3/4 cup skimmed milk
- 2 oz (1/3 cup) oatmeal (rolled oats)
- 1/2 an apple (grated)
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
Bring the water, oats, and half the milk to the boil. Continue to boil whilst stirring (for 5 minutes), and add grated apple. Add further milk to cool.
Snack
- Small handful of unsalted nuts (almonds, walnuts, brazil nuts, etc).
Lunch
Scrambled Egg on Toast
- 1 large egg
- 1 tbsp fat-free milk
- 1 slice whole wheat bread
- 1/2 oz low-fat shredded cheese
Beat egg with the milk and scramble in a non-stick pan or microwave, Toast the bread, top with scrambled eggs and cheese.
Dinner
- 1/2 avocado, sliced
- 2 oz cooked chicken, chopped
- 2 cups shredded lettuce
- 6 cherry tomatoes
- 1/2 cup sliced red pepper
- 1 thinly sliced red onion
